Community Transitional School

One of the Royal RosarianFoundation’s favorite charities is CTS, a private pre-K through 8th-grade school for homeless children. We provide an annual grant to partially fund one of the instructional assistants.

The news this spring at CTS is the completion of the long-desired bus barn! For years the school’s three short yellow school buses have been victims of vandalism–slashed tires, broken windows, cut brake lines, and stolen catalytic converters. Now, after many delays, the buses have a secure home on the school’s campus on Northeast Killingsworth Street.

Reliable transportation is an essential element for student success at the school, and it enables the children to post excellent attendance records. Every school day, the buses fan out over the Portland metro area, stopping at shelters, motels, and parking lots–wherever the children are staying, and bring them to a place where they receive meals, educational instruction, and nurturing.

The last day of the regular school year is Friday, June 9, and the summer program begins Monday, June 12.
